The Visit Korea Committee (chaired by Park Sam-koo) plans to hold a business presentation session on Korea’s all-in-one festivals for shopping, culture, and sightseeing at the Lotte Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 23. This session will invite officials from the Korea Tourism Organization Hanoi Office (headed by Jung Chang-wook), the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the Vietnam Society of Travel Agents (VISTA), the Ha Noi Department of Tourism, as well as representatives from over 100 local travel agencies and media.

Through the presentation, the committee will introduce the Korea Sale FESTA—targeted at both foreigners and Koreans and scheduled on October 2017—and the Korea Grand Sale—targeted at foreigners only and scheduled on February 2018. To prepare for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the Visit Korea Committee plans to ramp up tourism in Gangwon Province by seizing the opportunity of the two festivals: The Korea Sale FESTA, held 130 days before the Olympics, will act as an attention-grabber and the Korea Grand Sale, concurring with the Olympics, will act as an enticement that hopefully attract more tourists to the region and the sporting event.

The committee will appeal to Vietnamese travel agencies the benefits that cover shopping, sightseeing, and Korean Wave content all together only available during the promotional events and solicit them to increase Korea tour packages and to attract more tourist to Korea. This year’s Korea Sale FESTA (Sept 28–Oct 31) will be more entertaining as it coincides with Chuseok—Korea’s largest holiday period—and the festival season. From the beginning of the festival on Sep. 28 until Oct. 9, at the Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul, many events will be held promoting the festival and participant companies will also provide various entertaining hands-on programs at their promotional booths.

Also, the committee will introduce a band of convenient services targeted at free-independent travelers. The services include the KOREA TOUR CARD, which was launched in January this year: A single card can be used to pay for buses, subways, and taxis and rewards the card holder with its added benefits from 126 sponsors. Another service designed to free up the travelers is the Hands-Free Service. With it, they can send their luggage from their hotel to the airport in advance or store it at subway stations and the airport. By emphasizing these useful services, the committee will promote convenient and smart tours in Korea.

The business presentation will be followed by consultations between representatives from Korea and personnel from Vietnamese travel agencies about collaborative efforts for Korea tour packages from Vietnam and convenient services in Korea.

Visit Korea Committee Secretary-General Han Kyung-ah remarked, “We have high hopes in Vietnam as a market. The Vietnam’s economy has been growing at a steady pace and Korea has been seeing an increase in Vietnamese visitors. This year’s number rose by 29% compared to that of the same period last year. On top of that, it has been 25 years since the two countries opened up diplomatic relationships. We hope that our efforts with various promotions and convenient services will further flourish the cultural exchange between the two countries.

Last June, the Visit Korea Committee held a business presentation session in Taiwan for the same festivals. Following the presentation in Vietnam, the committee plans to continue promoting the all-in-one festivals and the KOREA TOUR CARD by holding road shows in such large markets as China, Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia from where a large number of visitors come to Korea.
